How To Drive Traffic To My Blog
We recently published an ebook with 10 tips to make your blog brand-friendly, and due to its popularity we have seven new tips to share with you.
1. Have consistent branding. As an influencer, you share content with your audience across different platforms and you spend the most time and energy on platforms where your audience is. Because you have an online presence on more than one platform, be sure to have consistent branding across all of your linked platforms. From logo and images to your 'about me' sections. Also, be sure to link to all of your platforms from within each platform, and that your blog URL closely ressembles that of your brand name.
2.Be unique. There are over 181 million blogs around the world*, and you can still stand out. There's always a way to put a spin on your site. Remember that you as an individual are unique so express that uniqueness on your blog. Nobody else has your voice nor the same life experiences.
3.If you have more than one blog, be sure to keep each blog separate and distinct. This applies to your blog name, topics, and type of content. For example, if you have a food blog and a parenting blog, take care to focus on food related content, topics and branding on your food blog, and this includes sponsored content.
4.Language does matter. While it's important to write in a friendly, easy to read way and sometimes include expressions, slang and emoticons, remember that brands are looking to see your language skills. If a brand is going to select you to help represent them digitally to your audiences and their consumers, they are going to care about your punctuation, spelling errors and professionalism. This is the case whether you are writing in English or Chinese or Spanish (beware of too much Spangish).
5.Comments are part of your content. Just because you didn't write the comments your readers leave on your blog (or social channels), it doesn't mean that you shouldn't monitor them. Comments should be relevant to the topic of your post, and not alienate your audience. Replying to each comment is a really great way to demonstrate to brands how engaged you are with your readers. Engagement is a key metric to brands when selecting which influencers to work with.
6.Use linkups wisely. Linkups are another great way to engage with your audience, connect with other influencers, and demonstrate your influence to brands. However, the visual layout of your site is very important to brands. As mentioned before, on your homepage select to show only snippets rather than full posts so brands can quickly scan as much of your content as possible. The same applies to linkups, do not have all 150 linkups display right on your homepage pushing all of your high quality content further down the page.
7.Brands do judge blog names. Your blog name is often the first piece of your branding that brands see before diving into your content and topic sections. Take care to select a name that doesn't misrepresent you, your content and your topics. A very good tip to keep in mind when starting a new blog, or rebranding.
